Sunday morning, members of the Battle Creek Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and the Battle Creek Fire Inspector assisted residents that were displaced by a fire at River Apartments on February 1st . CERT and BCFD were assisting residents in retrieving their property from apartments that were condemned after the fire, until they could be ruled safe for entry.

When they entered the apartments they found that at least 9 of the units had been burglarized over night, leading them to call Battle Creek Police. As a result of the investigation that ensued and with the assistance of other residents in the apartment complex, officers were able to identify several suspects who are currently being interviewed by BCPD detectives. We will keep you informed of any updates.

We would like to thank the Battle Creek CERT members who braved the horrible conditions today and helped out with the River Apartment fire. Thank you Fire Inspector Quincy and BCFD for your assistance with planning the operation and to the staff of River Apartments for the assistance and coffee!
