Our Mission:

To provide Battle Creek residents, businesses and industries, non-profit organizations, and local governments the education and support necessary to reduce the loss of life and human suffering; to minimize property damage; and to protect environmental sensitive areas from all types of disasters through a comprehensive, risk-based, all-hazard emergency management program.

Battle Creek Emergency Services is dedicated to protecting lives, property, environment and the economy of its citizens through preparedness and mitigation activities, respond in an effective manner to emergencies and disaster, and coordinate and participate in the recovery effort as a result of such events. It is the responsibility of Battle Creek Emergency Services to coordinate the task of mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery as effectively as possible.

Services Provided:

  • Coordination of emergency operations within the scope of Michigan Statutes
  • Develops and maintains the City's Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan
  • Coordinates emergency management activities, services and programs within the city, including:

    • Education of disaster preparation with minimal effects
    • Helping equip local first responders
    • Providing disaster assistance to communities, businesses, and individuals
    • Liaison to the State Division of Emergency Management and other organizations

  • Liaison and coordinator for State and Federal assistance during pre and post-disaster operations
  • The Battle Creek Emergency Services office manages the overall response and recovery efforts to natural and technological disaster response in the City of Battle Creek. The management is achieved through city, state, and federal resource integration.

The Battle Creek Emergency Services Program's Purpose:

  • Establish effective preparation activities within the framework of the Emergency Plan
  • Identify potential disaster situations and take the lead in providing mitigation solutions to the situations.
  • Design effective response plans
  • Design effective recovery activities with contacts from both public and private sectors. This includes political subdivision, local jurisdiction, state, and federal resource coordination.
  • Provide continuity of government during emergencies.

The city's Emergency Action Guidelines does not replace the operating procedures of any city department. The Guidelines depend upon department expertise. The plan provides interdepartmental communication channels, means to access needed resources, a framework for recovery, and a method of organizing and confirming information for public release.
